Grand Africa Initiative under her Community development programs empowered the youth of Amichi, a town in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. The Amichi Youth Empowerment Summit with the theme Amichi Youth Rising, held on the 8th of November, 2018. The participants includes students from senior secondary schools within Amichi and other young school leavers. The Five Secondary schools within Amichi- Union Secondary School, Community Secondary School, Holy Child Convent, Rhema Int’l Secondary School and Trinity Comprehensive Secondary School- were all greatly represented. Role Models, Speakers and Mentors drawn from the government, industry and the academia engaged the youth at the summit.

The summit under the distinguished chairmanship of Sir. Engr. Igweka Uche, the Executive Director of Weltek Limited also had in attendance highly respectable achievers such as His Excellency, Dr. Nkem Okeke, the Deputy Governor of Anambra state; Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, the Secretary to Anambra state government; Hon. Mark Okoye, the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Budgeting and Development Partners; Mr. Henry Ezike, CEO of Henry and Henry limited; Hon. Tagbo Okeke, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Entrepreneurship; Miss Ngozi Emmanuel, a young lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; and also a PHD student of Leicester University, United Kingdom, Mr Chukwuma Umeh, the MD of Bellcorp U.S.A, Dr Ije- Board Member, Nnewi Zone of Post Primary School Commission, Principals and Teachers. The summit also had excellent young role models who are setting the pace for their peers to emulate-Ms. Favour Ndubuizu; Jovita Ezeanyika CEO of Jovis Concept and Ikechukwu Anajemba-CEO of Iykemedia and Co-Founder Atlass Press. These mentors/role models shared their personal experience and stories and engaged to empower the minds of these young people.

The summit also featured quiz and spelling bee competitions and prize awards. In each competition, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes were N50,000; N30,000 and N20,000 respectively. There were also lots of consolation prizes for the 4th and 5th positions. Textbooks and other educational materials were donated to every student and also their school libraries. The participants expressed deep appreciation and pledged to act on their learnings from the summit. Furthermore, as an outcome of the summit, a mentor, Hon Mark Okoye, granted about 200 scholarships to some students from Union Secondary School, Amichi. The scholarship covered 1st and 2nd term school fees, registration fees for West African Examination Council (WAEC) and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board Exam (JAMB).
